Our Mission
Golden Dandelion Club contributes to our community through passion, teamwork, and ambition. We firmly believe in the cycle of gratitude and compassion. By giving back to our society, we create opportunities for others like us to step forward and make a change as well. Only through kindness can our community change for the better.
Volunteering at Friendship Shelter
Over the summer, the Golden Dandelion Club began visiting and providing fresh and home cooked meals for the residents of the Friendship Emergency Shelter in Laguna Beach, a year round shelter and rehabilitation center for homeless adults. As the Covid-19 pandemic had made it difficult for the Friendship Emergency Shelter to provide for its residents, the GDC’s efforts received a warm welcome from the residents and shelter organizers alike. The food was made on site in the shelter’s kitchens, and was based on cultural Chinese dishes, such as chow mein, fried rice, and kung pao chicken. All ingredients were bought using club funds previously raised through making and selling candies. The GDC plans to volunteer monthly at the shelter throughout the school year to help ensure the residents at the shelter can continue their rehabilitation in a safe and stable environment.
Helping Domestic Violence Shelters
As quarantine and social distancing strained relationships and changed social norms, more women found themselves in abusive relationships, with global domestic violence reports arising as much as 25-33%. Our club decided to do our part in supporting victims of domestic abuse within the local community by donating to Human Options. This organization helps mothers and children suffering from domestic violence get their life back on track. The Golden Dandelion Club GDC members contributed unused essential goods such as clothes, sanitary wipes, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, dishwashing materials, and more, packaging these in hand-decorated bags. GDC made 158 care packages and delivered them to Human Options to be distributed within their shelters.
CHOC Hospital Donation
The Golden Dandelion Club raised $1000 for the Children’s Health Orange County Hospital (also known as CHOC) through making and selling cookies. The funds were used by the hospital to buy technologies and medical supplies essential in treating childrens’ diseases.
